Micah Schwaberow

Micah Schwaberow (1948-2022) was born in Eugene, Oregon and lived In Santa Rosa, California. The rolling hillsides, cloudscapes and coastline of Sonoma County are a major motif in his woodcuts. 

Schwaberow learned the art of Japanese woodblock art from Toshi Yoshida, one of Japan's masters in 1981. For a while after that he taught the process to other foreigners in Japan. After returning to the United States he continued to work in the techniques, as well as teaching workshops in the San Francisco Bay area at such institutions as the University of California at Berkeley, and Mills College in Oakland and at the San Francisco Art Institute.
