“Jenny Robinson – Urban
Monuments” presents
the beauty of decayed cityscapes from London and
San Francisco. The exhibit features her large-scale
prints, capturing the constant
cycle of decline and renewal in the urban landscape.
Jenny Robinson was raised in Borneo and educated
in the United Kingdom, before relocating to
San Francisco. Her work won the prestigious Printmaking
Today Prize in England. In London, her
work is being featured in this year’s Royal
Academy summer show. In the United States her prints
have garnered attention on both east and west coasts.
In April she had a one-person show at the Davidson
Galleries in Seattle, WA. She was also included in
this spring’s
exhibition at the International Print Center New
York, juried by artist Jane Hammond.
Printmaking Today Magazine described Jenny Robinson’s
work in an article called 'Monuments
of Industry’.
The texture of these gritty industrial structures
and facades, which are so often overlooked and seen
as blots on the landscape, are Robinsons inspiration
as she works to bring out the hidden beauty in her
subject matter. From 'Monuments of Industry'

Also on exhibition are prints created at the studio
of Eastside Editions in San Francisco. Robinson was
invited to create a series of large scale etchings
there. These prints feature a view of San Francisco
best explained by one etching showing the back of
a SOMA neighborhood billboard. The billboard’s
backside is covered with graffiti visible through
the ratty armature of the structure. This print exemplifies
Robinson’s eye for the reality behind (in this
case literally) the glamour of the urban environment.
