Roy Ragle is an independent printmaker who has reveled
in all aspects of printmaking - from the initial inspiration through
the final pulling of the print off the press. For most of his
career he has focused on the incredibly labor intensive process of
the woodcut.
Since 1970 Roy has suffered from Crohn's disease, a rare degenerative
disorder that progressively weakens the body. . Much of his work has
sprung from his personal journey as his his conditionprogressed.
Roy Ragle was born in National City, California in 1944. He attended
San Diego State University where he received his B. A. in 1968,
and the San Francisco Art Institute where he received his M.F.A.
in 1974. Roy taught relief printmaking at San Francisco State
University, Fresno State University, and the San Francisco Art Institute.
He has also exhibited widely in museums and galleries both nationally
and internationally. He has exhibited in more than twenty national
print competitions since 1968, with awards and prizes too numerous
to mention.
