Emmaus: But their eyes were holden...

color woodcut, 16 3/4 x 22, 1983
This working proof of one of Wolff's most popular prints. The print depicts one of the visions of Christ after his resurrection. Wolff portrayed all three of the visions of Christ after his resurrection. In this print two disciples discover Christ is their companion on the road to Emmaus.

And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. And they talked together of these things which had happened. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. –- Luke 24: 13-16 (King James version)
