Eloy Torres

Eloy Torrez (1954– ) is best known for his monumental mural Pope of Broadway, a commanding portrait of actor Anthony Quinn that towers over the side of the former Victor Clothing Company in downtown Los Angeles. Painted in 1985, the work has become an enduring cultural landmark, celebrating both Quinn’s Mexican heritage and the vitality of the city’s Latino community.

Torrez emerged during the flourishing of Chicano art in Los Angeles during the 1970s and 1980s, when a generation of artists was transforming walls, galleries, and community spaces into vibrant expressions of identity and resilience.
