Segun Agunsoye

Segun Agunsoye lives and works in Ile-Ife, the historic city of Yoruba-land in Nigeria. Born in Lagos in the early 1960s, he began his artistic career in 1987 and quickly established himself as a significant voice in contemporary Nigerian art. His early international recognition came in 1989, when he exhibited at the French Bicentenary Revolution at the French Cultural Centre in Lagos.

Over the course of his career, Agunsoye has played an active role in the Nigerian arts community. He is a member of the Abuja FCT Cultural Centre and the Osun State Cultural Centre’s committee for art and craft, contributing to the promotion of local traditions and the advancement of cultural exchange. He has also organized workshops for the American, French, and German schools in Abuja, fostering cross-cultural dialogue through the arts.

Agunsoye’s work has been shown widely across Africa and internationally. His exhibitions have taken him to France, Germany, the United States, and Canada, affirming his status as a global ambassador for Nigerian and African contemporary art. His practice bridges tradition and innovation, rooted in Yoruba cultural heritage while engaging with broader global artistic conversations.
