This is a contemporary fine press broadside or print that combines:
17th-century baroque poetry by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648–1695), a nun, scholar, and one of the greatest writers of colonial Latin America.
A central linocut image by Artemio Rodríguez, a contemporary Mexican printmaker renowned for his woodcut and linocut work, often echoing traditional Mexican iconography with modern social critique.
Printing and design by Taller Martín Pescador, one of Mexico’s most respected fine presses, founded by Juan Pascoe. Known for reviving hand-press techniques using movable type and traditional craftsmanship.
The artwork features a detailed linocut of La Virgen de Guadalupe, surrounded by iconography referencing both colonial Catholicism and indigenous Mexican culture. The text reproduces two "villancicos" (sacred songs or carols), originally sung at the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral in 1676 in honor of the Virgin Mary.
