Javier Roz - prints and biography
Javier Roz
Javier Roz was born in Plasencia, Spain in 1975. Though he initially studied medicine from 1995–2000, his passion for the arts soon led him in a different direction. Between 1998 and 2000 he pursued studies in photography and cinema, and in 2001 he began to learn the art of engraving, which would become central to his creative career.
Since 1985, Roz has lived and worked in Málaga, where he develops projects rooted in a single idea or image, expanding upon it through a variety of media. His practice spans drawing, painting, etching, photography, and video, reflecting a restless exploration of form and meaning. Over the course of his career, he has presented more than 23 solo exhibitions and participated in over 70 group exhibitions across Spain, France, Italy, and Mexico, establishing himself as a significant figure in the contemporary Spanish art scene.
Since 2011, Roz has also been active as an educator, teaching drawing and serving as an assistant professor at a photography school in Málaga. His teaching, like his practice, emphasizes the dialogue between media and the refinement of visual language.
Roz’s current work is focused on the relationship between photography and drawing, line and light, exploring the poetic tension between precision and suggestion. This ongoing investigation seeks to merge two disciplines—photography’s command of light and drawing’s command of line—into a singular, expressive synthesis.
