In Dystopia, Pavel Acevedo presents two closely grouped figures beneath the looming form of a coiled snake. Their closed or downcast eyes, compressed poses, and surrounding darkness create a powerful atmosphere of sorrow, uncertainty, and confinement. Energetic carved lines give the image both emotional weight and physical intensity.

This original relief print was created for the 2019 Utopia/Dystopia portfolio, curated by artist Miyo Stevens-Gandara and produced at Self Help Graphics & Art in Los Angeles. Together, the two prints offer Acevedo’s contrasting visions of aspiration and unease.
