Marichal works in nearly every media, including printmaking, painting and mixed media. Her prints often express her interest social, political and environmental concerns, while also exploring a more internal dreamlike imagery based on tree-like and organic forms. For Marichal, trees are symbols of our need to be rooted and safe but also of our desire to transcend our limitations and branch out into the cosmos.

She has said that Printmaking is her favorite medium because "it allows for endless experimentation and configurations. It is also the utmost democratic art form."

In 2004, at the same time that they were teaching printmaking at Self Help Graphics, Poli Marichal and Agustín Barón founded the Los de Abajo Printmaking Collective.
