Matthes’ print presents a scathing critique of corporate influence in American politics through the symbolic depiction of two debate podiums covered in the logos of powerful multinational corporations. Instead of candidate names or political party symbols, the podiums bear emblems of financial institutions, tech giants, and lobbying firms—such as JPMorgan Chase, Google and Goldman Sachs - suggesting that these entities, rather than the people, are the true voices behind political discourse. The muted brown and yellow background, evoking an abstracted American flag, reinforces the idea that democracy has been overshadowed by corporate interests.
