Tom Edwards is an accomplished American printmaker and educator whose career spans more than four decades. He received his MFA in painting and printmaking from the Yale University School of Fine Arts, following earlier studies at Kansas State University, where he earned both a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a master’s degree in drawing and printmaking. This dual background in design and fine art informs Edwards’s work, which often combines a structural sense of composition with a painterly sensitivity to line and tone.

Edwards began teaching printmaking at Yale from 1983 to 1985 before joining the faculty of Central Connecticut State University in 1985, where he has remained a professor of art. Through his teaching, he has mentored generations of young artists while continuing to pursue his own creative practice.

His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the United States and internationally. Highlights include shows at Jane Haslem Gallery in Washington, D.C.; Prince Street Gallery and Denise Bibro Fine Art in New York; Gallery 195 at the New Haven Arts Council; the Naestved Roennebaeksholm Art & Culture Center in Denmark; and several prominent venues in Connecticut and New England.

Edwards’s prints are widely collected, with his work held in the permanent collections of some of the most respected institutions in the country. These include the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Boston Printmakers Permanent Collection, among others.

Balancing his contributions as both an artist and an educator, Tom Edwards has built a career that demonstrates the lasting vitality of printmaking. His art, teaching, and international presence affirm his role as a dedicated advocate for the graphic arts.
