Scott Anderson’s Farewell to the Wasteland is a surreal and visceral commentary on the devastation of war, consumerism, and environmental degradation. The print features two grotesque, mechanical-organic entities locked in confrontation. On the left, a brain-topped planet-like form, riddled with gears and circuitry, seems to represent intelligence, perception, or Earth itself. On the right, a monstrous, screaming machine bristling with weaponry, fists, and consumer debris—like crushed cans and bones—epitomizes industrial violence and unchecked aggression. The tension between these two figures evokes a symbolic clash between reason and destruction, nature and machinery, or civilization and its self-inflicted ruin.
