Christian Bozon - prints and biography
Christian Bozon
Christian Bozon, born in Lons-le-Saunier, France in 1969, has built an international reputation as a master printmaker whose works capture both the vibrancy of color and the poetry of atmosphere. His formal training began at the Art School of Besançon, where from 1986 to 1987 he immersed himself in the fundamentals of printmaking and fine art. Shortly thereafter, Bozon began to establish his career as a professional artist, guided by a passion for the technical and expressive possibilities of printmaking.
In 1993, Bozon realized a long-held ambition when he organized an engraving studio at the French Cultural Centre in Tetouan, Morocco. This project not only expanded his own practice but also contributed to the promotion of printmaking in a region where the medium was less widely practiced. His time in North Africa left a lasting impression, introducing him to a spectrum of light, color, and atmosphere that would later infuse his work with distinctive warmth.
Eventually, Bozon settled in Málaga, Spain, where he continues to live and work. His adopted home in Andalusia, with its brilliant light, rich history, and proximity to Africa, deeply informs his artistic language. His prints are often described as a delicate balance between abstraction and landscape, evoking the natural world while avoiding literal representation. Through the techniques of drypoint and aquatint, Bozon creates images filled with layered tones, soft transparencies, and subtle textures. Interestingly, he has made a conscious decision to avoid traditional etching, preferring instead methods that allow for a more direct and painterly expression.
Bozon’s career has been marked by significant international exposure. He has exhibited regularly across Europe, Japan, the United States, and Africa, presenting both solo and group exhibitions in galleries, institutions, biennales, and salons. His distinctive vision has been recognized with numerous awards in France and Spain, affirming his position as one of the notable contemporary French printmakers working abroad.
Through his art, Christian Bozon conveys a sense of place that merges the influences of France, North Africa, and southern Spain. His prints are both intimate and expansive, inviting viewers into luminous spaces where memory, imagination, and landscape converge.
